There exist many ways to celebrate the New Years eve and majority of people choose to party, attend discos and have informal get together. However, those who do not want to stay indoors on the event and share the joy with others, attend events like New Year Ball drop. 

The iconic New Year Ball drop that takes place every year at Time square in NYC, draws millions of visitors from various places. The first Ball drop took place in the year 1907. Except for two years during World War II this event has taken place every year.

In 2008, a new ball was introduced which was almost double the size of its predecessors. Around a million people gather at Times Square to witness the famous event every year on 31st December night. 

This is a free for all event and people from all age groups and ethnicity gather at the place. This event is also broadcast by TV networks to enable billions of viewers who cannot attend the event in person watch it in all its glory!

If you want to witness this grand event in person, advance planning becomes a prerequisite. Needless to say, adjacent hotels are approached by interested people and finding a booking in any of their rooms can be quite a tough task. 

Some people like watching the event from balconies or rooms in adjacent hotels. If you want to be present at the venue, it would be prudent to arrive there by afternoon by car or cab. Get a hang of the maps of nearby streets by searching online. 

Be prepared for the climate as winter nights can be chilly an NYC. The viewers are not allowed to be in an inebriated state and hence refrain from drinking before attending the event to evade legal hassle.
